Goodbye Texas ….

The One Where I Try to Figure Out What the Heck I’m Supposed to Do All Day

Most of you know about the 4,372 anxieties I had about moving to Korea.

If you’ve been following along, you’ve heard about at least some of them in the last two posts.

The dogs.
The language barrier.
The boys getting settled into a new school.
My Dyson not working with the voltage.

And then there was the whole going on a leave of absence from work thing.

Because apparently moving your entire life halfway around the world wasn’t enough. I also had to step away from the job I’ve had for the last 15 years and just… trust the process.

Not exactly something I’m good at.

And honestly? That one may have been the scariest.

Work has consumed a HUGE part of my life for the last 15 years. It’s been my routine, my purpose, my people, my identity, and my comfort zone. So walking away—even temporarily—felt a little like jumping without knowing exactly where I was going to land.

But here we are.

The dogs survived the journey.
The boys are getting settled.
Google Translate is basically a member of our family.
I’m slowly figuring out the grocery store.
And thankfully, I’ve found ways to survive without my beloved Dyson.

Now, with the boys getting ready to start a brand-new school year and Lee heading off to the shipyard every day, I’m trying to figure out what my new normal looks like.

And, more importantly…

What exactly am I supposed to do with myself all day?

For now, I’m writing this blog.
Exploring Korea.
Trying to figure out the grocery store (no more cereal with beans, thank you very much).
Sharing our adventures.
And, most importantly, trying to make Maroon Fridays a thing in Okpo.

I feel a little like Gretchen Wieners in Mean Girls.

“I’m trying to make fetch happen.”

Except my fetch is maroon.

Maybe this whole Korea adventure isn’t about having everything figured out. Maybe it’s about being brave enough to go anyway—and trusting that I’ll figure out the rest along the way.

So while I’m on this leave of absence and figuring out this next chapter, thank you for supporting this little blog and becoming part of my creative outlet. It gives me somewhere to put all the thoughts, chaos, laughs, adventures, and questionable decisions that come with moving your entire life to the other side of the world.

Follow along here, follow me on TikTok for maroon outfit inspo, food recommendations, and whatever other shenanigans I get myself into, and most importantly… just keep checking in.

A message saying you’re thinking about us means more than you probably realize as we navigate this crazy transition. ❤️

So here’s to figuring it out as we go.

Cummings & Goings: 4,372 anxieties, one leave of absence, and a whole lot of Maroon Fridays.

Stay tuned for the next post… our house tour! 🏠
