Cummings and Goings

Well… we survived.

Our 27-hour travel day is officially behind us, and somehow everything actually went smoother than expected. We got to our house late last night, and while the boys and I decided 4:00 a.m. was a perfectly reasonable time to start the day (thanks, jet lag), everything else has been surprisingly uneventful. Which, if you’ve followed Cummings & Goings for any length of time, you know is not exactly our brand.

The flight from Salt Lake City to Seoul in business class was absolutely incredible. Beckett and Sam were the only kids up there, so they basically became everyone’s favorite passengers. Sam somehow negotiated himself three warm chocolate chip cookies while the rest of us peasants got one. I’m still not over it.

We had lie-flat sleep pods, Missoni toiletry kits (which, if you know me, is basically the airline version of handing me a designer purse), endless mixed nuts, wine, mimosas, meatballs and polenta, chicken, kimchi fried rice with bacon, and waffles. Honestly, I wasn’t sure if I was flying to Korea or checking into a five-star hotel.

The boys did so well on the 12-hour flight. Their excitement won over their exhaustion, and Sam refused to sleep until the last two hours. Beckett slept like a champ, and Sam eventually crashed too. Thankfully, both boys inherited Lee’s superpower of being able to sleep through just about anything. Unfortunately, by the time we landed, Sam was so exhausted we could barely wake him up. For a brief moment, I thought we were going to have to carry him off the plane. Seeing as he’s already built like a linebacker, and we were juggling backpacks, carry-ons, and whatever dignity we had left, that would’ve been quite the arrival.

Today we wandered into the heart of Okpo for breakfast, much-needed coffee, and our first shopping trip. We hit Daiso (which might become my new personality) and Lotte Mart, which is basically Walmart’s Korean cousin. We also picked up our very first Korean face masks and skincare products because when in Korea…

And then there was the airport.

Whoever designed Incheon Airport clearly understands my love language. Louis Vuitton. Gucci. YSL. Longchamp. Basically every handbag store imaginable. Coincidentally, those were the only stores I seemed to notice.

We’re still pinching ourselves. The view from our second-floor balcony is absolutely breathtaking, and I honestly can’t believe this is home for the next 18 months.
