Well… We Actually Did It.

If you had told me 16 years ago that the guy I followed to Texas for “just one year” would eventually convince me to move halfway across the world, I would’ve laughed.

And then probably asked if South Korea had Target.

Yet… here we are.

Welcome to Cummings & Goings—a little corner of the internet where I’ll document what happens when two small-town kids from Indiana and Mississippi, two wild boys, two spoiled dogs, and way too much luggage pack up their lives in Texas and head to Okpo, South Korea for the adventure of a lifetime.

For those who don’t know us…

I’m Katy. Wife to Lee, mom to Beckett and Sam, dog mom, purse enthusiast, skincare junkie, professional over-packer, and someone who usually has about 47 tabs open in my brain at any given moment.

Lee’s job with Chevron is taking us overseas for the next 18 months. Which sounds incredibly glamorous until you realize it also involved mountains of paperwork, international shipping, selling half our house, saying goodbye to people we love, and discovering that moving a dachshund and lab across the world requires more documentation than some humans.

Who knew?

Leaving Texas has been harder than I ever imagined.

This is where we built our life. Where our boys have grown up. Where friendships turned into family. Where we coached soccer, survived PTO meetings, cheered at school events, celebrated birthdays, and somehow blinked our way through 16 years.

Those goodbyes were heavy.

But here’s the thing…

I’ve always believed the best stories start with someone saying, “This might be a terrible idea…”

So we’re saying yes.

Yes to awkwardly attempting Korean.
Yes to getting hopelessly lost.
Yes to eating foods we can’t pronounce.
Yes to homesick days.
Yes to incredible adventures.
Yes to making memories our boys will talk about long after they’ve forgotten what they learned in fifth and third grade.

This blog won’t be perfect.

Some days you’ll get travel tips.

Some days you’ll get stories about accidentally offending someone because I misunderstood Google Translate.

Some days it’ll be pictures of amazing places.

Other days it’ll just be me trying to figure out where to get plain black coffee.

I want to remember all of it—the exciting parts, the funny parts, the hard parts, and the moments that remind us why we said yes in the first place.

So whether you’re here because you’re family, a friend, a fellow expat, or just someone who enjoys watching other people willingly turn their lives upside down…
